Charliiey • Small Business Owner

Nine years ago, Charliiey relocated to Denver from New York with no plans or direction, just optimism about the future. With the help of Denver’s community, the Mayor’s office and her peers, she unearthed her entrepreneurial spirit and today owns three businesses. Here’s what Charliiey shared with me about what it means to be Black in Denver.

What does it mean to you to be Black in Denver?

To me, being Black in Denver means to live in my truth, dreams, and fears. It is rising to the beat of community and support for my brothers and sisters. It’s also the strength of a hug.

What do you love most about living in Denver?

What I love most about Denver is the ability to make my dream a reality. I never thought I’d be an entrepreneur. It was living here and connecting with my peers that opened my eyes and heart to what I was capable of doing.

How have your experiences in Denver shaped you as a creative, entrepreneur, professional, etc.?

When I moved here nine years ago, I had no idea where I was going or what I wanted out of my life. In my time here, I have been able to sit at the table with many organizations and individuals. They helped me find the entrepreneur within me.

Charliiey is the proud owner of three businesses: Bright Day Cleaning, a residential and commercial cleaning service; Bye Bye Doodie, a pet waste management company; and Bella Bae Cosmetics, a line of natural cosmetics and moisturizing lip glosses. Support her!
