Sabrina • Dancer

Sabrina and I share a passion for dance, especially a highly-stylized form called Voguing, which is how we met. She has lived in Denver for 18 years and despite the fact that many of her friends have left for other cities, she enjoys the sense of community.

Also… she’s an incredible dancer!

What does it mean to you to be black in Denver?

Denver has changed quite a lot since I moved here 18 years ago. We are going through a serious wave of gentrification. I believe that being black in Denver means to try and preserve the culture that we have left. I might even go as far as saying it means to really try our best to stay connected to our roots. Being a first-generation African has really shown me the importance of having culture and trying our best to let it thrive.
